Is the fomo app legit? Safety, custody and red flags explained

Short answer: yes, the fomo app is legit in the sense that matters first. It is a real product from a real company, FOMO Labs Inc., founded in 2025 by three former dYdX engineers and backed by Benchmark, Index Ventures and Union Square Ventures with roughly $94M in disclosed funding. It is listed on the App Store and Google Play under the company’s own name, it publishes a fee policy, and it has been covered by Fortune and The Block.
The harder question is whether “is fomo app legit” is what you should be asking. The app is real. Most of the coins traded on it are not safe, and memecoin trading is high-risk speculation where most people lose money. This page covers both halves: what backs the app, how custody works, what the fees look like, and the red flags that do exist.
Who is behind the fomo app
FOMO Labs was founded by Paul Erlanger, Se Yong Park and Prashan Dharmasena. All three worked at dYdX, the decentralized derivatives exchange, and Erlanger and Park spent five years together at Deutsche Bank before that. That is a more traceable background than most crypto apps offer.
The funding trail is public. A $2M pre-seed from more than 140 angels was announced in February 2025. Benchmark led a $17M Series A in November 2025, with Coinbase Ventures among the participants. Index Ventures led a $75M Series B in June 2026 at a reported valuation of about $550M. Investors of that size do their own diligence on the company before writing checks, which is not a guarantee of anything for you as a user, but it does rule out the classic anonymous-team exit scam.

How custody works: your keys, no seed phrase
fomo is self-custodial. Your wallet is powered by Privy, an embedded wallet provider, and you log in with an email code or Apple ID plus your phone’s biometrics. There is no seed phrase to write down. Trades route through DFlow, which fomo says gives MEV protection (that is protection against bots front-running your swaps).
What self-custody means in practice:
- fomo does not hold your funds in a company account the way a centralized exchange does. If the company failed tomorrow, the assets would still be in your wallet.
- Because there is no seed phrase, your email account and Apple ID are effectively the way back in. Lock those down with strong passwords and two-factor authentication.
- Self-custody also means fewer safety nets. Send tokens to the wrong address and nobody can reverse it.
Two things fomo does not claim. Its own safety page says “no platform is immune to all risks”, and fomo.family does not mention an independent security audit. That is not a red flag on its own, but it is a reason to treat the app like a hot wallet and keep only what you are actively trading in it. Read fomo’s own safety answer before you deposit.
Are fomo’s fees transparent
Mostly. fomo’s FAQ describes a “competitive trading fee, gas included, no hidden spreads”. The spot figure is about 0.45% per trade. Perps cost 0.05% plus protocol fees. The exact number is not printed on fomo.family, so the fee shown on the confirm screen in the app is the one that counts.
| Fee | What fomo says | Our note |
|---|---|---|
| Spot trade | Competitive fee, gas included, no hidden spreads | About 0.45% per trade; check the app |
| Perps | 0.05% plus protocol fees | Not available to U.S. Persons |
| Gas | Included | Baked into the trade, not charged separately |
| Deposit | Apple Pay, card, ACH, crypto | Onramp fees and limits not published |
A legitimate app can still be an expensive one. Gas-included pricing is convenient, but 0.45% each way is real money on a coin you flip in ten minutes. Our fomo app fees page breaks down what a round trip costs.
Can you actually withdraw money
This is the question behind most “is fomo app a scam” searches, so here is exactly what fomo publishes and nothing more. Its withdrawal FAQ says bank withdrawals “arrive within 3 business days”, first-time withdrawals may need extra verification, and large amounts may get extra review. Crypto withdrawals to an external wallet are the self-custody path; fomo has not published the flow, minimums or how network fees are handled.
We have not run a withdrawal ourselves, so we are not going to tell you it is smooth. We can tell you the policy exists in writing and that a first-time verification step is normal for any app that moves fiat. Our fomo app withdrawals guide has the details fomo does publish and what to check on the withdraw screen.
What Reddit and app store reviews can tell you
We do not paste Reddit quotes on this site. They are trivial to fabricate, and a thread from a beta build in 2025 says little about the app in late 2026. If you go read them yourself, sort the complaints into two piles:
- Specific, dated problems with the app: a withdrawal stuck for a week, a login loop, a balance that did not update. These are worth weighing.
- “I lost money on fomo.” Almost always this means the person bought a memecoin that went to zero. That is the market, not the app.
The second pile is much bigger than the first on every memecoin app, and it tells you nothing about legitimacy.

Red flags that actually exist
None of these make fomo a scam. All of them can cost you money.
Fake apps. Only install from the App Store listing “fomo: never miss out” (id6741115427) or the Google Play package family.fomo.app. APK mirror sites are the easiest way to install a wallet drainer. Our fomo app download page has the direct listings.
Impersonators. fomo lists Discord, X (@fomo), Instagram (@tryfomo), YouTube and LinkedIn as its channels. It does not list Telegram. Anyone messaging you on Telegram claiming to be fomo support is not.
The coins. fomo is a memecoin venue. Rug pulls, honeypots and tokens where the deployer holds most of the supply are daily events on Solana and Base. The app shows holder details on coin pages, which helps, but it does not protect you from a bad token. See trading Solana meme coins on the fomo app for what to check before buying.
No KYC at signup, verification later. You can create an account without ID. fomo says first-time withdrawals may need extra verification, so do not assume the fiat off-ramp is anonymous.
Perps are not for U.S. Persons. If you are in the US and someone shows you how to trade SpaceX or Nasdaq perps on fomo, you are being shown a workaround that breaks fomo’s rules.
Verdict: is fomo app safe
fomo is a legitimate, well-funded app with a self-custody model, a written withdrawal policy and named founders. It is safe in the way a good hot wallet is safe, which is to say it is only as safe as your email, your Apple ID and your own judgment about which tokens to buy.
Trading memecoins is high-risk speculation, not investing, and most people who do it lose money. Nothing on this page is financial advice. If you decide to try it, start with an amount you would not miss, and read the fomo app review first for a fuller picture of fees and features.
Questions people ask
Is the fomo app a scam?
No. fomo is made by FOMO Labs Inc., a company with named founders and about $94M in disclosed venture funding from Benchmark, Index Ventures and Union Square Ventures. The coins you can buy on it are another matter; many memecoins are scams.
Is fomo app safe to put money in?
Your funds sit in a self-custody wallet powered by Privy, not in a company account. fomo itself says no platform is immune to all risks, and fomo.family does not mention an independent security audit. Treat it like a hot wallet: keep only what you are actively trading.
Is fomo app real or is it a fake trading app?
It is real. The iOS listing is 'fomo: never miss out' (App Store id6741115427) and the Android package is family.fomo.app. Anything else claiming to be fomo, including APK mirror sites, should be avoided.
What do Reddit users say about the fomo app?
We do not quote Reddit threads here because they are easy to fake and go stale fast. When you read them yourself, separate complaints about a specific withdrawal or login problem from complaints about losing money on a coin. Only the first kind tells you anything about the app.
Can you lose money on the fomo app?
Yes, easily. Memecoin trading is high-risk speculation and most people who do it lose money. The app being legitimate does not make the trades safe.
Can I trade perps on fomo in the United States?
No. fomo's own announcement says perpetuals are not available to U.S. Persons. Spot trading is a separate question; check the App Store in your region.
