How to use the fomo app: deposit, buy and trade
Disclosure: this page contains a referral link. If you sign up through it, this site may earn a share of the fees you pay on fomo. It does not change what we write or what you pay.
This is how to use the fomo app from a blank phone to a finished trade: create an account with an email code or Apple ID (no seed phrase), add money with Apple Pay, pick a token from the feed or search, buy it, watch it, then sell. Everything runs on one balance that works across Solana, Base, BNB Chain, Ethereum, Monad and Robinhood Chain, with gas folded into the trading fee. It is a research guide built from fomo’s own pages and public coverage.
Memecoin trading is high-risk speculation, most people who do it lose money, and nothing on this page is financial advice. The app makes buying easy. It does not make the coins any less likely to go to zero.
What you are signing up for
fomo is a social crypto trading app from FOMO Labs, a company founded in 2025 by three people who worked at dYdX. It raised $17M from Benchmark in November 2025 and $75M from Index Ventures in June 2026, when it reported more than 625,000 users. The wallet is self-custodial and powered by Privy, and trades route through DFlow for MEV protection. fomo itself says “no platform is immune to all risks”, and no independent audit is mentioned on its site. If that part matters to you, read is the fomo app legit first, and what the fomo app is if you want the feature tour.
Step 1: sign up
- Install the app from the App Store or Google Play, or open fomo.family in a browser. Use the store listings only; the fomo app download guide has the links and a note on fake copies.
- Tap sign up and pick email or Apple ID. With email, fomo sends a one-time code. With Apple ID, Face ID or Touch ID handles it.
- Turn on phone biometrics when asked. That is what protects the account from someone who picks up your unlocked phone.
There is no KYC step to create an account and no seed phrase to copy down. fomo says signup takes under 30 seconds on web. The trade-off is that your email login is the key to a self-custody wallet, so use an email account you control and protect.
Step 2: fund with Apple Pay
On iPhone, Apple Pay is the path fomo pushes hardest. You approve the amount with Face ID or Touch ID and fomo says the funds are available immediately. By its Series B, fomo reported 68,000 first-time crypto buyers had funded this way, about $25M in total.
| Method | Speed (per fomo’s FAQ) | Catch |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Pay | Immediate | iPhone only |
| Debit card | Fast | Your bank may block it |
| ACH bank transfer | 1 to 5 days | Slow, but free |
| Crypto transfer | Depends on the network | Send on a chain fomo supports |
fomo does not publish deposit limits or onramp fees, so read the deposit screen before confirming. Start with an amount you would be fine never seeing again. The deposit guide goes through each method and the network warnings for crypto transfers.

Step 3: find a token
Three ways to find something to trade:
- The feed. This is the social part: posts from traders you follow, their “theses” (short write-ups on why they hold a coin) and threaded comments.
- Whatever trending or discover list the app shows, which surfaces what other users are buying. That is a crowd signal, and crowds in memecoins are usually late.
- Search by name or ticker. Land on the coin page and check the holder details before you buy. A coin where a few wallets hold most of the supply can be dumped on you at any moment.
For the Solana side, which is where most of the memecoin action is, see trading Solana meme coins on the fomo app.
Step 4: how to buy on the fomo app
- Open the coin page, or use quick buy straight from a feed post.
- Enter the amount in dollars. fomo handles the chain, the gas and the routing.
- Check the fee on the confirm screen. fomo charges about 0.45% per spot trade, gas included, but its FAQ only commits to “competitive”, so trust the screen over this page.
- Confirm with biometrics.
You pay the fee when you buy and again when you sell, so a round trip costs roughly double the quoted figure. On a small position that is noise. On a coin you flip five times in a day it adds up. The fomo app fees page has the arithmetic and the tax notes.
Step 5: watch it
The position shows in your portfolio with its current value. If you followed the trader who posted the thesis, fomo sends alerts when they act, which is a cheap way to learn how someone else exits. Decide your exit before you need it: a price where you take profit and a price where you give up. fomo has take profit and stop loss orders on perps, but nothing public confirms them on spot, so on memecoins you are managing exits by hand. The stop loss guide covers alerts and partial sells for exactly that.
Step 6: sell, then withdraw
- Open the position and tap sell. You can sell part of it or all of it.
- Confirm. The proceeds land back in your single balance.
- To move money out, go to withdraw. fomo’s FAQ says bank withdrawals arrive within 3 business days, that a first withdrawal may need extra verification, and that large amounts may get extra review. Crypto withdrawal to an external wallet is the self-custody route, and fomo does not publish the minimums or fee handling, so read that screen too.
The full flow, plus what to do when a sell fails, is in how to withdraw money from the fomo app.
How to use the fomo app most effectively
A few habits that help more than any indicator:
- Size every position as if it will go to zero, because many will.
- Read theses before buying, and notice which traders post reasoning versus which just post tickers.
- Use the leaderboard and follow feature to learn, then decide for yourself. Copy trading on fomo explains what following actually gives you.
- Run the numbers on the meme coin profit calculator before a trade. Fees, slippage and thin liquidity eat more than beginners expect.
- Withdraw profits when you have them. A balance that only ever goes back into the next coin is not profit.
A note on perps
fomo added perpetuals on 11 June 2026, powered by Hyperliquid and Trade[XYZ], with crypto, US equities, indices and commodities at 0.05% plus protocol fees. They are not available to U.S. Persons, and leverage turns a bad trade into a wiped account faster. Beginners should learn spot first.
Questions people ask
Is the fomo app good for beginners?
The onboarding is built for people who have never held crypto: email or Apple ID login, no seed phrase, Apple Pay funding. The trading itself is not beginner friendly, because most memecoins go to zero. Easy app, hard market.
How do I use the fomo app without Apple Pay?
fomo's FAQ lists ACH bank transfer (free, 1 to 5 days), debit card (fast, but your bank may block it) and crypto transfer from another wallet. Android users will need one of those, since Apple Pay is iPhone only.
Do I need a seed phrase to use the fomo app?
No. The wallet is self-custodial and powered by Privy, but you log in with an email code or Apple ID and phone biometrics. There is no 12 or 24 word phrase to write down.
How much does it cost to trade on the fomo app?
About 0.45% per spot trade with gas included, so a buy and a later sell cost roughly 0.9% of the position. fomo's own FAQ only says the fee is competitive, so check the number shown on the confirm screen before you tap.
Can I use the fomo app on a computer?
Yes. The web app at fomo.family launched on 29 April 2026 and uses the same account and balance as the phone app. fomo describes it as a companion, not a trading terminal.
