Stop loss on the fomo app: selling and closing trades

The short answer on how to set a stop loss on the fomo app: you can on perps, where fomo’s launch post lists take profit and stop loss orders, and there is no public documentation of one on spot, which is where memecoins trade. So for the coins most people use fomo for, the exit is manual, and the second half of this page is about doing that well.
Memecoin trading is high-risk speculation, not financial advice, and most people who do it lose money. A stop loss limits how much one trade can hurt. It does not make the trade a good idea.
What a stop loss is
A stop loss is an instruction to sell automatically if the price falls to a level you chose. Buy a coin at $1.00, set a stop at $0.80, and if the price drops to $0.80 the platform sells for you, capping the loss around 20% without you watching the screen.
A take profit is the same idea in the other direction: sell automatically when the price rises to a target.
Two things beginners miss. First, a stop is a trigger, not a guarantee. On a thin memecoin the price can jump from $0.85 to $0.60 in one block, and the sell executes at whatever is available. Second, memecoins swing 30% on nothing, so a tight stop gets hit constantly and you bleed fees. There is no clever setting that fixes that; it is the nature of the asset.
Can you set a stop loss on the fomo app?
| Market | Stop loss | Take profit | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Perps (BTC, ETH, SOL, US equities, indices, commodities) | Yes | Yes | fomo perps announcement, June 2026 |
| Spot (memecoins, cross-chain swaps) | Not documented | Not documented | Nothing public on fomo.family |
Perps launched on 11 June 2026, powered by Hyperliquid and Trade[XYZ], with isolated margin and take profit / stop loss orders on each position. They are not available to U.S. Persons, and leverage means a stop is not optional there; without one, a bad move can close the position for you at zero.
For spot, fomo’s public pages describe quick buy, coin pages, alerts and the feed, and say nothing about conditional sell orders. fomo may add them, and the coin page inside the app is the place that would show it. Until then, treat spot as manual.
How to sell on the fomo app
Selling is the same tap sequence whether you are taking profit or cutting a loss.
- Open the position from your portfolio, or open the coin page.
- Tap sell.
- Choose how much. You can sell part of the position or all of it.
- Check the quoted amount and the fee. fomo charges about 0.45% per spot trade, gas included; the confirm screen shows the current number.
- Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID or your phone’s biometrics.
The proceeds return to your single balance, spendable on any of the supported chains without bridging. From there you can buy something else or withdraw; how to withdraw money from the fomo app covers timing.
How to close a position on the fomo app
On spot, closing a position and selling all of it are the same thing. Sell the whole position and confirm. The coin disappears from your portfolio and the value lands in your balance.
On perps, positions have an explicit close. You can close manually, or let the take profit or stop loss order do it. Because margin is isolated, closing one perp position does not touch the collateral of another.
Partial closes are worth knowing about on both. Selling half after a coin doubles takes your original stake off the table, and whatever is left is a free ride. That single habit does more for most memecoin traders than any indicator.

Managing exits by hand on spot
Without a stop loss order, you need a substitute. These are the pieces fomo documents.
Decide the exit before the entry. Write down two numbers: the loss you will accept and the gain you will take. If you cannot name them, you are not ready to buy. The meme coin profit calculator will show what each exit is worth after fees and slippage, which is often less than the chart suggests.
Use alerts. fomo sends alerts when traders you follow act. If you got into a coin because someone posted a thesis, their sell alert is your signal to reconsider. Copy trading on fomo explains what following gives you and what it does not.
Sell in pieces. Partial sells are your take profit. Sell a quarter at one target and another quarter at the next instead of hoping to nail the top.
Cut fast. Most memecoins that drop 50% do not come back. Selling at a 30% loss feels bad; watching the position go to zero because you were waiting for a bounce feels worse and costs more.
Keep positions small enough that a manual exit is realistic. If a single position is so large that a bad night ruins your week, no exit plan will save it.
Failed sells and what to do
“Failed to sell” is one of the questions people search alongside fomo. Thin liquidity, a price that moved past the quoted slippage while the transaction was pending, or a token contract designed to block sells can all cause it. Try a smaller partial sell first, then wait a minute and try again. If nothing goes through, the fomo app not working page has the status sources and how to reach support through Discord or X.
Where this fits
If you have not made a trade yet, the beginner tutorial walks through funding and buying first. And if you are looking at stop losses because you are already down, that is normal. Take the small loss and size the next one smaller.
Questions people ask
Does the fomo app have a stop loss?
On perps, yes. fomo's perpetuals announcement lists take profit and stop loss orders. On spot memecoin trades, nothing public confirms a stop loss, so assume you are managing the exit manually until the coin page in the app shows otherwise.
How do I sell on the fomo app?
Open the position from your portfolio or the coin page, tap sell, choose part or all of the position, confirm with biometrics. The proceeds go back to your single balance. Each sell pays the spot fee of about 0.45%.
How do I close a position on the fomo app?
For spot, closing a position is selling 100% of it. For perps, use the close option on the position, or let a take profit or stop loss order close it for you.
Can I set a limit order on the fomo app?
Limit orders on spot are not documented publicly. If you want to buy at a lower price, the documented route is an alert and a manual buy. Check the coin page in the app in case this has changed.
Why did my sell fail on the fomo app?
Common causes on any memecoin platform are thin liquidity, a price that moved past the quoted slippage or a token contract that blocks sells. Try a smaller partial sell first. The fomo app not working page has the support channels if it keeps failing.
