fomo app vs Photon: a phone app against a browser terminal

Put fomo app vs Photon side by side and the shape of each one gives the answer away. Photon is a browser terminal built for fast Solana traders sitting at a desk. fomo is a phone app built around a feed of what other traders are buying. Photon costs more per trade, takes no card money, and hands you a private key once and only once. It is the riskier of the two by design, and for a certain kind of trader that is exactly the point.
Every Photon figure below comes from Photon’s own documentation, checked on 11 October 2026, with the link. Nothing here comes from using either tool.
What each round trip costs
Photon’s fee page for Solana says the platform fee is 1% of the input amount on every buy and every sell, collected in SOL. The worked example in the documentation is 0.05 SOL taken from a 5 SOL buy. The Ethereum side is also 1% per buy and per sell, with wallet-to-wallet transfers not charged.
That makes a straight buy and sell about 2% before anything else. Then come the extras. Photon’s settings documentation shows the priority fee and the Jito tip, sometimes called a bribe, as separate amounts that you set yourself. Set them low and your transaction may not land on a hot token. Set them high and you have quietly made the trade considerably more expensive than 2%. There is no published fee for limit orders or DCA orders, which is not the same as those being free.
fomo’s spot fee is about 0.45% per trade with gas included, so roughly 0.9% to get in and out, and there is no priority fee for you to guess at because fomo bundles network costs into the fee. Perps are 0.05% plus protocol fees and are not available to U.S. Persons.
Two cautions on those Photon numbers. The documentation pages carry no revision date, so 1% is simply what the docs said on 11 October 2026 and not a figure with a timestamp behind it. And the discounted rate that comparison sites attach to a Photon referral appears nowhere in Photon’s own documentation, so we are not printing that figure at all. Fees on both platforms change without announcements, and the confirmation screen in front of you is the only number that is actually true. fomo app fees explained runs the fomo side on realistic trade sizes, and the meme coin profit calculator shows how badly slippage on a thin pool beats either platform fee as a cost.
Web only, which is the whole character of the thing
Photon has no iOS app, no Android app and no browser extension. It is a website. Its own documentation tells mobile users to open it inside Phantom’s in-app browser, which is a reasonable workaround and also a strange one: you end up running a trading terminal inside another company’s wallet app, with two sets of session state to worry about.
fomo is the opposite. It is on iOS as “fomo - never miss out” and on Android as family.fomo.app, with a web version that fomo itself describes as “not a trading terminal”. That is an honest line and it cuts both ways. If you want a terminal, fomo is not trying to be one, and the fomo app on PC explains what the desktop experience actually is.
So the platform question is not a tie broken by preference. If you trade from a phone on the move, Photon is awkward at best. If you trade from a desk with several windows open and want keyboard-speed execution, a phone app is the wrong shape and Photon is built for you.

Funding, where the gap is not close
Photon documents no card rail and no bank rail. You fund it with crypto you already own, which means Photon assumes you arrived from somewhere else. For an experienced Solana trader with SOL sitting in a wallet, that is a non-issue. For anyone whose money is currently in a bank account, Photon is not step one, it is step three.
fomo funds with Apple Pay and says the balance is available immediately, and its FAQ also mentions ACH at free but one to five days, a debit card that banks often block, and plain crypto transfers. fomo does not publish an onramp percentage, which is a genuine gap rather than a selling point, but the route exists. At its Series B in June 2026 fomo reported more than 68,000 people buying crypto for the first time through Apple Pay.
Custody, and the sentence that should decide it for most people
This is the part that matters more than the fees.
Photon generates a browser trading wallet for you, and the private key is shown exactly once. There is no seed phrase. If you did not copy that key the moment it appeared, there is no screen to go back to and no recovery flow to run. If you did copy it, it is now sitting wherever you put it, which for most people means a notes app or a screenshot.
That is a materially riskier model than either fomo or a conventional wallet, and it is the honest centre of this comparison. A browser-generated hot wallet with a one-time key reveal is fine for an amount you would shrug at losing. It is not where a meaningful balance should live.
fomo’s wallet is generated and managed by Privy, with no seed phrase and no one-time reveal to miss. You sign in with an email code or Apple ID, your phone’s biometrics gate sensitive actions, and fomo’s Terms say you will be able to view and export your wallet’s private keys when you want to move elsewhere. fomo also says plainly that no platform is immune to all risks and publishes no independent audit, which is the fomo app legit weighs up without flattering anyone.
One more thing to be straight about: Photon’s live site blocks automated checks, so claims floating around that its non-Solana chains were disabled during 2026 could not be verified. Its operator is Tiny Astro Inc. according to its own Terms of Use, last revised 8 December 2024. Treat the documentation as a starting point and confirm what you see in the interface, because the docs are clearly not kept on a tight cycle.

Who should use which
Photon makes sense if you already trade Solana launches seriously, you work from a desk, you understand priority fees and Jito tips well enough to tune them, and you keep only working capital in a hot wallet. The Memescope filters, presets, routing choices and multi-wallet support are real advantages over a phone app, and the 2% round trip is a cost that fast traders accept for the tooling.
fomo makes sense if you trade from a phone, you want to fund with Apple Pay rather than arrive with SOL, you would rather pay about 0.9% than 2%, and you find coins by watching other traders instead of filtering a firehose. The fomo app and Solana meme coins guide covers that side properly, and fomo app vs Phantom handles the other common comparison, the one against a wallet rather than a terminal.
If you are shopping more broadly, fomo app alternatives lines both of these up against Moonshot and Axiom, and pump.fun alternatives splits the field into launchpads and trading venues.
What neither tool fixes
Photon at 2% and fomo at 0.9% are trading memecoins either way, and memecoin trading is high-risk speculation rather than investing. Most people who do it lose money, on a terminal and on a phone alike. Nothing on this page is financial advice. A cheaper venue and better tooling change how much of a loss goes to the house, not whether the loss happens.
Questions people ask
Is Photon cheaper than the fomo app?
No, on the published numbers. Photon's documentation says 1% of the input amount on every buy and every sell, so a round trip is about 2%, plus a priority fee and a Jito tip that you set yourself. fomo charges about 0.45% per spot trade with gas included, roughly 0.9% for the same round trip.
Does Photon have a mobile app?
No. Photon is a web tool with no iOS app, no Android app and no browser extension. Its own documentation tells mobile users to open it inside Phantom's in-app browser, which means running a trading terminal through someone else's wallet.
Can I fund Photon with a card or Apple Pay?
Photon documents no card or bank rail at all, so you arrive with crypto or you do not trade. fomo funds with Apple Pay and says the money is available immediately, which is the practical difference for anyone starting from a bank account.
Where is my Photon private key?
Photon generates a browser trading wallet and shows the private key exactly once, with no seed phrase. If you did not save it at that moment there is no recovery screen to go back to. Treat any wallet created that way as a hot wallet for small amounts.
Is the Photon referral discount real?
The discounted referral rate that circulates on guide sites appears nowhere in Photon's own documentation, so we will not print the figure. Photon's published number is 1% per side, and the trade confirmation is the only reliable check.
What is Photon good at that fomo is not?
Speed and screening at a desk. Photon has a Memescope feed of new tokens with filters, trading presets, limit orders, DCA and multi-wallet support, plus routing choices for MEV protection. fomo is built for a phone and for discovery through other traders.
