fomo app perpetuals are leveraged bets on price direction, long or short, on assets you do not own. fomo launched them on 11 June 2026, powered by Hyperliquid and Trade[XYZ], and they are blocked for anyone in the United States. Start with that second part, because it decides whether the rest of this page is useful to you.

Perpetual futures are the most dangerous product in retail crypto. Leverage means a 10% move against a 10x position takes everything behind it. This is high-risk speculation, not investing, not financial advice, and most people who trade leverage lose money faster than they lose it on spot.

The US restriction, first

fomo’s own announcement says perps are provided by third-party protocols and are not available to U.S. Persons, which it defines as citizens, residents, or anyone located in the United States, and it adds a line telling users not to attempt access from inside the country.

That is not a soft geo-block to route around. It is the condition the third-party protocols impose, and attempting to get around it puts your account rather than just your position at risk. If you are in the US, the spot side of the app is the part that is open to you, and how to use the fomo app covers it.

How to open a perp position on fomo

  1. Open the fomo app and switch from spot to perps. The portfolio view is integrated, so your crypto balance and your perps sit in the same place and you do not fund a separate account.
  2. Pick the market. Search the asset you want, then check what you are actually looking at: the perps list runs well past crypto into stocks, indices, commodities and FX. The full list of fomo perps markets breaks down what the two venues behind fomo carry.
  3. Choose a direction. Long if you expect the price up, short if you expect it down. Shorting is the part spot traders have never had, and it is where most first losses happen, because a short’s loss has no ceiling the way a spot position’s does.
  4. Set your leverage. The app shows the maximum for that market, and the maximum is not a target. At 10x, a 10% move against you wipes the position. At 3x you survive a 30% move. Nothing else on this page matters as much as this number.
  5. Size the position. fomo shows both position size as notional, meaning total exposure, and position value as equity, meaning what is actually yours. Read the second number, since it is what you lose.
  6. Set take profit and stop loss before you confirm. fomo supports both on perps and draws them on the advanced charts. Setting them later means setting them during a move, which is when nobody sets them well.
  7. Confirm, then leave it alone. One-click trading is in the app for speed, and speed is not your friend on leverage.

Isolated margin, and why it matters here

fomo says every perpetual position is isolated in the initial product, which keeps perps feeling like spot. In practice isolated margin is the single most protective default on the product: the margin you put behind a position is the maximum that position can cost you. A liquidation takes that margin and stops there instead of reaching into the rest of your balance.

The trade-off is that an isolated position liquidates sooner than a cross-margined one, because it cannot borrow strength from your other funds. That is the right trade for almost everyone. Treat each position as a separate, capped bet and the account survives a bad call.

Funding payments, the cost nobody budgets for

A perpetual contract never expires, so something has to keep its price tied to the asset it tracks. That something is the funding rate: a payment that moves between longs and shorts at intervals, paid by whichever side is crowded. When everyone is long, longs pay shorts.

Funding is not a fee fomo charges, and it is not in the 0.05%. It is a running cost or credit on an open position, and on a crowded market it can be the difference between a winning idea and a losing trade. A position held for weeks pays funding for weeks.

What fomo perps cost

fomo lists perps at 0.05% plus protocol fees. The protocol fee is the venue’s, and both venues publish theirs:

LegfomoVenue, base tierRough total per side
Crypto perps on Hyperliquid0.05%0.045% taker, 0.015% makerAbout 0.095% taker
Stocks, indices, commodities, FX on trade[XYZ]0.05%0.090% taker, 0.030% makerAbout 0.14% taker

Those venue numbers come from Hyperliquid’s and trade[XYZ]‘s own fee pages, checked on 11 October 2026, and both get cheaper as 14 day volume climbs. fomo does not publish a combined figure, so treat the right column as arithmetic rather than as a quoted price, and read the fee line in the app before confirming. Perps are cheaper per trade than fomo’s spot fee of about 0.45%, which is covered on the fomo app fees page, and that gap tempts people into the riskier product for the wrong reason.

The social layer, which cuts both ways

Perps plug into the same feed, leaderboard, thesis and profile features as spot. You can see trades in real time, track top holders, and get notified when someone you follow opens a position. fomo’s position sheets and share cards expand on perps to show direction, leverage and size.

Read that carefully. A leveraged position broadcast to an audience is a position with an incentive attached, and copying a leveraged trade is worse than copying a spot one: you inherit their leverage without their balance, their entry or their nerve. The copy trading guide covers why mirroring is where beginners lose fastest, and the top traders page shows what the leaderboard does and does not tell you.

Before you open one

Run the numbers on a position you would actually take, at the leverage you would actually use, and look at what a 20% move against you does to it. The meme coin profit calculator handles the spot maths, and for a perp the shortcut is simple: your liquidation sits roughly 100 divided by your leverage percent away, before fees and funding. At 20x that is 5%. Memecoins move 5% while you read this paragraph.

Questions people ask

Can US users trade perps on the fomo app?

No. fomo states that perps are provided by third-party protocols and are not available to U.S. Persons, meaning citizens, residents or anyone located in the United States, and it tells users not to attempt access from inside the country. Spot trading on fomo is available in the US.

What leverage does fomo offer on perps?

Leverage depends on the market, and the ceiling is set by the venue rather than by fomo. On Hyperliquid's crypto perps the maximum runs up to 40x on BTC, with most assets far lower, and on trade[XYZ] markets it runs from 3x to 50x. The app shows the maximum for the market you have open.

What do fomo perps cost?

fomo lists 0.05% plus protocol fees. The protocol fee is the venue's: at the base tier Hyperliquid charges 0.045% taker on crypto perps and trade[XYZ] charges 0.090% taker on stock, index, commodity and FX perps. Funding payments are separate and are paid between traders.

Is margin on fomo perps isolated or cross?

fomo says every perpetual position is isolated for the initial product, which keeps the experience the same as spot. Isolated margin means a liquidation can only take the margin you put behind that one position, not the rest of your balance.

What happens to my position if I get liquidated?

The venue closes it and the margin behind it is gone. With isolated margin that loss is capped at the margin on that position, which is why position sizing matters more than the entry on a leveraged trade.

Can I use stop loss and take profit on fomo perps?

Yes. fomo supports take profit and stop loss on perps, and shows both on the advanced charts in the app. Set them when you open the position rather than planning to watch the chart.
